Royal reunion to hit a six for participants

Friendships and comraderies formed on the cricket pitch during the 1970s will be rediscovered this weekend in Grafton, when former members of the first-grade cricket team the Royal Colts unite for their 50-year reunion.

Organised by Garry Ensbey, who served as the teams opening bowler, the two-day celebration will commence on October 8 with a welcome lunch at the Crown Hotel at 11:30am, followed by a visit to Ellem Oval and a game of barefoot bowls at the Grafton District Services Club (GDSC) at 2pm, and a casual dinner at the venue at 7pm.

October 9 will start with breakfast at Vines at 8:30am, followed by a round of golf and lunch at the Grafton Golf Club from 10:30am.

The reunion weekend will conclude following lunch at 1pm.

Mr Ensbey said the formation of the Royal Colts in the 1970s provided many young and enthusiastic players under the age of 16 with an opportunity to play senior cricket while still participating in the junior competition.

“We all had a lot of fun together, and I’m hoping the reunion will be a chance for many of us to get back together again after many years, and offer us a chance to catch-up, relive the good old times we shared together, and to celebrate what we did,” he said.
