Points to remember on the road this Easter

As we look forward to the 2022 Easter long weekend, motorists are being reminded that double demerits will be enforced in NSW and the ACT between April 14-18.

Double demerits apply for speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seatbelt, or riding a motorbike without a helmet.

NSW Police are urging travellers to drive carefully and take extra care on the roads to protect themselves, their loved ones, and other road users.

Easter 2021 was a particularly busy period for NSW Police with over 300 people charged with drink driving offences and five people tragically losing their lives across the state.

With an increased number of travellers on NSW roads during the school holidays, police continue to strongly encourage motorists to exercise caution.

Mobile phone detection cameras and mobile speeding cameras are also active throughout NSW.

Drivers caught using their mobile phones while driving during the double demerit period will incur a $352 fine, a $469 fine if they are caught committing the offence in a school zone and lose 10 demerit points.

Drivers are also being encouraged to check weather forecasts prior to travelling during the school holidays and keep up to date with www.livetraffic.com
