Never too old for the Cup

Having a flutter and wearing a fascinator is all the rage for Mareeba Aged Care residents as they celebrate this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Age is no barrier at Mareeba where residents dressed to impress for the Cup’s Fashions on the Field.

Residents Jean (103) and sisters Gwen (102) and Eileen (93) looked stunning, sporting fancy fashion and brightly colored fascinators.

“Melbourne Cup Day is an annual highlight in our event calendar,” said Mareeba Facility Manager, Leanne Hancock.

“Witnessing the fun our residents and staff have together, dressing up and enjoying the race, is all part of Mareeba’s annual social program.”

On the day both staff and residents strutted their stuff in a fashion parade with clothing provided by local businesses Ta’chele and Clovelly’s Fashions, Maclean. It was a community effort.

The event included a Cup sweepstakes, raffles and a BBQ lunch before watching the big race at 3pm.
