The Maclean Lions Club ‘Return and Earn’ can and bottle collection depot at Townsend is going from strength to strength.

The Club commenced the project in August 2019 as a service for the community, enabling them to bring in their empty cans and bottles to the service area to be counted for recycling, with an instant return of 10 cents per item.

The ‘Return and Earn’ depot is open every Sunday and Wednesday from 8am – midday at the Maclean Lions Club shed in Ironbark Drive, Townsend, beside the Landcare nursery and opposite Passmore Auto Air & Electrical.

Maclean Lions Club president Robin Parker said that some days the response can be overwhelming, with thousands of items being brought in.

“The number of cans and bottles has grown from around 3000 items per four hour period (or session), during the first few months,” Ms Parker said.

“On average we now receive around 15,000 items per session.

“The highest number of bottles and cans brought in during one 4 hour period was 32,000,” she said.

Due to the high volume of turnover, the Club is desperately seeking more members and helpers to assist with the running of this community service.
