Lawrence Area Over Fifties’ Group Inc.

As the year draws rapidly to a close, the Lawrence Area Over Fifties’ Group has only one or two more functions to complete the programme for the year. On Friday, December 4, the group will host the community Carols Night at the Lawrence Hall. This event will commence at 7.00 pm and promises to be a delightful evening of community singing of many of the well-loved Christmas carols. As well as the community singing, there will be special items to entertain the congregation, with the children from the Lawrence school giving an item, the Tempomentals will sing, and Rose Callaghan, who will lead the singing will also perform in her inimitable fashion. Santa will make a brief appearance during his busy schedule. Because of fire restrictions in the Hall, only battery operated candles will be allowed, but it is hoped that there will be a lot of these to lend a special Christmas atmosphere to the evening. Following the programme, supper will be served, and a contribution towards supper would be appreciated. The other remaining event is the Christmas Party for the group, which will be held on Tuesday, December 8. If you have not already booked for this happy occasion, phone Maureen on 0428301083. Members will car pool for the party and will leave the hall at 5.45 pm. Gifts to the value of approximately $7 will be exchanged and these should be left with Cookie as soon as possible. If you are male, provide a gift for a man, and if you are female, buy a gift for a lady. Wrap them suitably in pink or blue to distinguish. Other activities organised by the group will continue as members see fit. For cards, phone Shirley on 66477320, and for bowls contact Maureen on the above number. The Tempomentals have one further booking for the year, and then will go into recess until January. However, the group is always keen to involve more people and so if you can sing, or if you play a portable musical instrument, please phone Vols on 66477255. Finally, the group wishes everyone a very merry Christmas. Keep safe and well and enjoy the holiday season.
