Lawn bowls play suspended for all State events in 2021

Bowls NSW has made the decision that all 2021 State events, including those administered and run by Bowls NSW and Women’s Bowls NSW, will not be played in the 2021 calendar year.

The recent announcement from the NSW Government to extend the lockdown period and impose new restrictions in a number of LGAs was the catalyst for the decision.

Bowls NSW is considering the options available to reschedule 2021 State events beyond the calendar year. It is anticipated that the state events calendar for 2022 will be available for release in October 2021 and will be prepared in line with the ongoing competition review, including the recent on-line member’s survey, and any relevant health advice provided by the NSW Government. Bowls NSW has committed to provide further updates as soon as possible.

Additionally, any Districts, Regions or Zones yet to complete their 2021 events have been asked not to reschedule or make arrangements for these events to be played until further updates are provided by Bowls NSW. This does not include club championships, special events or tournaments.  In the interim, we can only do our bit by ensuring that we adhere to the current restrictions, get vaccinated and wait.

The Yamba club’s Match and Greens Committee will develop an alternate bowls calendar for the remainder of the year once a relatively clear path is established at the conclusion of the current lockdown period and any enduring restrictions or limitations are known, the post-viral era: the “next normal.”

It is anticipated that once we can get back onto the greens there will be a flurry of activity including roll-ups, social bowls, championships and possibly tournaments. However, we will be cognisant of not going too fast and ensuring that all necessary precautions, such as physical distancing, cleaning of hands and equipment, etc are acknowledged and practiced.

Roll-ups and social bowls will be the first lawn bowls activities to be reinstated at the club once the lockdown restrictions are lifted or modified to allow lawn bowls. Ultimately, men’s social bowls will be back on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

All games commence at 1pm and nominations can be made by telephoning the bowls office on 6646 8669 or by recording participation details on the nomination sheet adjacent the bowls office (when the club is open) prior to 11.30am on the intended day of play.

Please do the right thing, stay safe and we will all be back on the greens in the near future.
