Inquiry into Insurers 2022 flood response

Rodney Stevens

If you have been battling your insurance company after the devastating 2022 floods a Federal Parliamentary Inquiry into Insurers responses to the floods is your chance to have your say.

The Inquiry aims to investigate customers’ experiences with insurance companies to make a difference in the way disaster claims are handled in the future.

While many people may be sick of telling their stories, it is important that the experiences of our community are heard so the government has a thorough understanding of what the insurance claim process has been like for you.

The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics has commenced an inquiry into insurers’ responses to 2022 major floods claims, including for the south-east Queensland and northern NSW floods of February and March 2022.

The Inquiry will look into insurers responses to the Hunter and greater Sydney floods of July 2022, the Victorian, NSW and Tasmanian floods of October 2022 and the central west NSW floods of November and December 2022.

An online survey will be posted soon, allowing a quick and accessible way for people to share their experience with floods in Australia in 2022, with more information available at https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/House/Economics/FloodInsuranceInquiry?fbclid=IwAR1wxuuSejVv98qTs_mfRqSlmAR7pvA79DT8K3oi2X1FEpAxREWTGxGM3vk

The committee has invited submissions from the public addressing any or all of the Terms of Reference by October 31, 2023.
