Iluka student…in the spirit of ANZAC

The ANZAC spirit is still being carried on, by our little warrior students from the Iluka Public School, taking a stand to ensure “We will remember them”.

Iluka students have made a commitment, honouring our military history and fostering a sense of pride in our nation, by attending each year, Veterans Remembrance Day services at the Iluka Cenotaph. By attending these services, they are paying their respects and honouring our Veterans past and present.

Based on the long-standing commitment by the school and its students to our Veterans, the Iluka/Woombah Veterans felt it was long overdue there should be acknowledgement by our Veterans, so they too could show their respects back to the students and how much in means to the Veterans for the students being there for them.

On October 27, the Iluka/Woombah Veterans President Bruce Mcintosh, John Mclean Vice President and Brian Thomas the ex-President of the Iluka RSL Sub-Branch attended the annual awards day at the Iluka Public School to present to the students and the school, certificates of appreciation, as well as a bronze plaque to replace the damaged plaque which listed all the WW1 servicemen who came from Iluka.

It was a humbling experience for the Iluka/Woombah Veterans to present the certificates to the students, who were very appreciative, and Veterans are sure this will be something they can be very proud of and trust it keeps them in good stead.

The Iluka/Woombah Veterans salute, the headmaster for his pride in our nation and his commitment in ensuring the school and its students, “Will remember them, Lest we Forget”.
