When Mel and Vanessa saw the opportunity for a food café business within the Raymond Laurie Sport Centre at Yamba they didn’t hesitate and “Kai Reka” was born…Kai Reka meaning “Food Yummy”. “We are just two mums that are passionate about healthy nutritious food and wanted to be able to provide a ‘one stop healthy food shop’ not just for patrons of the Centre but for the community in general”, said Mel. Vanessa agrees, adding that the Raymond Laurie Sport Centre is getting busier and busier, and there are not too many options in the vicinity if you wanted to grab something to eat and drink. “And given the Centre is the place to go to get fit and healthy, healthy food options really are a no brainer.” Evening sporting activities attracts scores of health and fitness advocates and they can now grab dinner whilst at the Centre, and remember the Centre even has a kid’s corner where your youngsters can be entertained. Kai Reka have a selection of lunch and dinner options with salads even the kids will love. They have fresh and frozen take home meals for those who are time poor and feeling hungry. Mel and Vanessa can feed your entire family quickly, but most importantly, without compromising on nutrition. They are suppliers of “Simple Done Well” meals by Andrea Pilch of Iluka and have their own brand, Kai Reka’s new ‘Smuggled Veg” range for kids. The girls know how busy parents can be, juggling everyday life, work and kids and they saw the need to provide a service that would make life easier. Their menu even includes yummy cakes and slices for all dietary requirements, they even prepare Gluten Free, Dairy Free and Sugar Free cakes on request.
