Grafton Shoppingworld Senior Sportsperson for the Month of April: Laurelea Moss

Grafton cyclist Laurelea Moss is the Grafton Shoppingworld Senior Sportsperson of the Month for April.

After winning five gold medals in the sprint, keirin, individual pursuit, scratch race, and points race events during the Women’s Masters (45-49 years) at the Australian Masters Track Cycling Championships in April, she rated the overall experience as the highlight of her cycling year on and off her bike.

She also placed second in a one-off appearance in Stage 2 of the National Road Series and was invited to co-commentate in the media car for the Women’s National Road Series as part of the 2023 Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic.

Laurelea is the most prolific winner of the Loving Life 103.1 FM Masters Sports Award in the history of the Clarence Valley Sports Awards, winning the award for outstanding achievement by a Masters athlete three times, as well as the overall Clarence Valley Senior Sportsperson of the Year once in 2016.

Her consistent performances on the bike once again put her in the frame to collect more silverware at the 10th annual Clarence Valley Sports Awards in February next year.

So far, her fellow Senior Sportsperson of the Year finalists include mountain biker Michelle Newstead, track and field athlete Lesley White, and cricketer Ben McMahon.

Next week we’ll announce the Junior Sportsperson of the Month for May.
