Grafton men’s golf

Midweek competition

Tuesdays competition attracted a good field of just under 90 starters with the results very close at the top of the leader board in both the members and veterans competitions.  In the members component of the event, Leon McPhee (17) and Tony Gallagher (7) both finished with 39 points with Leon awarded the win and Tony the 1st r/up; 2nd r/up was Barry Godwin (18) with 38.

The results in the Veterans side of things were similar to the members competition with Leon and Barry taking out the top two spots with Derek Latimer (15) the 2nd r/up with 37.  Pro balls in both competitions went down to 36.

Thursday’s competition attracted 56 starters from which Jamie Arthur (14) with an outstanding score of 43 points, absolutely smashed the field, six points clear of his nearest, Greg Harvison (Plus 1) with 37. To claim the 2nd r/up spot Bill Dudgeon (17) had to survive a six way c/b with his 36.  Pro balls went down to most players with 32 on a c/b.

Upcoming events

Next weekend, one of the more important events on our golf programme is the 36 hole Herron Cup, sponsored by Tooheys. For those who intend qualifying for the 36 hole event, the cost for both days will be $55, which must be paid prior to teeing off on Saturday. The cost of entry to either the Saturday or Sunday 18 hole events will be $30, which can be paid on the day.

The Herron Cup is played under the Stroke format with the Herron Cup decided on handicap. Craig Langford is the defending Herron Cup holder with his score last year a nett 134. The Grafton Bowl which is held in conjunction for the 36 hole scratch is to be defended by the 2020 winner, Matt McKee, who recorded a score of 144 off the stick.

Following on from the Herron Cup weekend, on Saturday July 17 the Grafton Ally Fabrication July monthly mug, also a Stroke event will be held.

Regular Tuesday golfers should note due to the WGNR Annual Tournament there will be no competition for both members and veteran golfers on Tuesday July 20.

Another change to our programme relates to the 4-person Texas scramble, which was originally scheduled for Saturday July 31. That event has been brought forward to July 24. The Tim Newsome sponsored Stableford, which was to be held on that date, will now be held on July 31. Nominations for both of these events are now open.
