Ed,
You published a notice from the Maclean Historical Society (CVI 13/2/19) that said “A book telling the hardships of a family on Woodford Island…..” amongst other things.
The book titled “Stormy Sentence”, I recently completed editing, was written by my sister, Muriel Roslyn Moore, of her farming experience on a property on Elbow Creek Road Woodford Island from 1973 to 1979. I consulted with the Maclean Historical Society as well as with others in the district in the work of editing the book. The book now contains an appendix of the history of the The Pines a stone house on South Arm Road Brushgrove built by Mr Tom Ward in 1875 replaced after 1978 by a new dwelling and in which my sister resided for three years. No information was available from the Maclean Historical Society about The Pines.
There is now an appendix containing the history of The Pines together with a photograph of the original stone house. The book contains a number of photos and interesting stories from that period e.g. the auction conducted for the Moores in 1979 by Doughty Bros and purported to be the largest auction held to that time and which people still living in the district attended and still remember.
Because of cost constraints I had only 12 copies printed and bound one of which I gave to the MHS. I am making no money from the book but I suggested that some of the people I gave the book to may like to make a donation of $20 to the MHS. I have some monies but am still awaiting advice from the Society as to how I might transfer these monies to them. The book has been lodged digitally with the National Library of Australia and the QLD State Library. It has been published by Amazon and is available via Kindle.
