GDSC swimmers preparing for Nationals

Wilson Burns surprised everyone when he showed up to have a swim last night – always remaining a financial member, he seldom makes it to Grafton to compete.

A number of our members who are attending the AIF Nationals carnival were trying to perfect their times this week, but it was a little worrying when some of the times were too fast and others were struggling to make the grade.

Bruce Phelps, Anne Simkus, John Wainwright and Andrew Madden made it to the final of the 50m freestyle. Anne was first away followed at close intervals by the lads and held the lead for the entire distance.

However, a check on times had her breaking by .79 and Bruce, who was next home, also broke by .37. John swam a great time to take the win from Andrew, who incidentally also clocked a fantastic time.

The all-male line up of Damien O’Mahony, Geoff Simkus, Doug Ensbey and David Moon were on the blocks for the final of the 30m freestyle.

Doug, Geoff, Damien and David entered the water in that order, but it was the back marker David who crossed the black line in first place,

Doug was a close second and Damien squeezed into third place by just edging Geoff out by .03 of a second.

In the B B & B final all strokes were represented with Toni Ensbey doing backstroke, Bruce Phelps and Terry Marsh choosing breaststroke and David Moon tackled butterfly.

Marshy, unfortunately swam a tad too fast and broke by the smallest amount of .07. Next home was Bruce, and with a good time registered took the win from David in second place and Toni third.
