Electricity maintenance and traffic interruptions

As part of Essential Energy’s ongoing commitment to provide safe and reliable power to households and businesses, crews will be completing important electricity maintenance work in Murwillumbah in mid-February.

The significant work involves the replacement of the high voltage network along Wollumbin Street, along with general maintenance on the local electricity network.

Traffic flow will be affected as it will be necessary for the traffic lights at Sunnyside Mall in Wollumbin Street, to be turned off. Traffic control will be in place to keep road users safe.

Operations Manager Coastal, Chris Maccoll said, “To minimise the impact on businesses and road users, the work will be completed after-hours from 10.00pm on Thursday, 16 February through to 5.00am on the Friday”

To keep crews safe while working on the electricity network, power for some customers in the vicinity of the Murwillumbah central business district will be affected.  All affected customers will receive a separate and advance notification to help them plan during the power outage. “We apologise for any inconvenience and thank the community for their cooperation while our crews complete this important maintenance work” Chris said.
