Double Pennants win to Yamba

Kingscliff was a happy hunting ground for the Grade 3 and 4 CRDWBA 2022 District Pennant winners at the Regional playoffs last week.

The Yamba Grade 4 side came away Regional winners being undefeated in all three games, and will now progress to the NSW State playoffs at Tuncurry in mid-March.

And in Grade 3, a mere half a point was all that prevented South Grafton from joining them as overall winners in their grade.

This was an outstanding effort by the ladies from both clubs.

Playing in far from ideal weather, Yamba had a convincing two rink win first up, 5-0 against Stuart’s Point. They then prevailed in a last gasp 4-1 exciting win over their much-fancied opponents from Ballina, to finish Day 1 in top position.

Then on Tuesday morning they once more showed their determination, downing Cudgen 4-1, and bringing the Regional title back to the Clarence District. It was a concerted effort from the entire side, who combined well and supported each other when the going got tough. They must be congratulated on their outstanding results.

So too the ladies from South Grafton, who missed also coming away on top by the narrowest possible margin, finishing second. They finished on 9.5 points to Brunswick Heads’ 10.

On Monday, they had a good win over their Brunswick Heads nemesis in their first game, 4.5 to 0.5, winning one rink and drawing the other. They backed this up with a 4-1 win over Evans Head.

Then in their crunch game on Tuesday morning, South Grafton won one rink but unfortunately lost overall to go down 1-4 to the strong Coff’s Ex Services side, with whom they finished equal second. What a wonderful experience they had.

CRDWBA President Denise McLachlan witnessed the games and commented what wonderful bowls was played in woeful conditions. She heartily congratulated the two sides from the Clarence who have done their District and their Clubs proud.

And she emphasised she will be there in Tuncurry cheering the Yamba side to victory.
