Daves’ day at Mountain View

Regular supporter of the Grafton Sporting Car Club Hillclimb series Dave Morrow showcased his rally and circuit skills on the trying Mountain View Hillclimb course this month. Dave took out fastest time of the day in his Kryger Suzuki with a time of 48.28 seconds. Dave edged out local Andrew Gunn in his BRM Honda Kart on 48.56 seconds. Rounding the podium places was Daryl Small in his sports sedan Commodore on 49.88 seconds. Daryl’s was fresh from his stint at the first rounds of the NSW Hillclimb Championship staged at Mount Panorama Bathurst on the previous weekend. The weekend saw dry, wet, then dry and then wet conditions, which tested some of the competitors. Some drivers forgoing their wet runs to avoid damage to the vehicles or embarrassment? Whilst others took to the wet to have some fun and test their wet weather skills. Notable drives of the day included Ryan McSwan, Holden Torana, after many modification of the Christmas period recorded a time of 53.48 which is an improvement of 2 seconds over his previous personal best. This is a fantastic effort for Ryan. In addition to him competing he also assisted in the canteen during the day. Nathan and David Quelch in their Formula Libre cars performed exceptionally well. Resulting in fifth and seventh in class 9 respectively. Performing extraordinarily well in trying conditions Sarah Hughes of the Hughes Racing Team took out fastest lady in her Holden Commodore with a time of 57.59 seconds. Look out boys of the Hughes Racing Team here comes Sarah! Our new covered bays, whilst not being fully utilised over the past weekend at lot of interest was shown in renting for the year. Two of the seven bays have been rented for the year. If you are interested in securing one, get in quick by contacting the Hillclimb secretary. The club committee thanks everyone involved a great day’s motor sport and looks forward to seeing everyone at round 2 will to be held on Sunday May 15 with competition commencing at 9.30am.
