Catherine O’Donnell guest speaker at ‘Beyond the Shadow Exhibition’ preview dinner

Catherine O’Donnell, winner of the 2022 $35,000 biennial Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award will lead diners through her latest exhibition “Beyond the Shadow” at Grafton Regional Gallery on Friday February 10.

Catherine says “I see the suburbs as full of connection and disconnection, sameness and difference:  in short, my drawings examine suburban living as a site of complexity.  I am particularly interested in the way that the vernacular architecture and general street scapes of the places we regularly inhabit become recessed into our minds like wallpaper – they are at once visible and invisible.”

The exhibition includes a 74% scale replica of a fibro house inviting the viewer to find the aesthetic poetry embedded within uncelebrated and ordinary buildings.

The Friends of Grafton Gallery are volunteers that support the Gallery, helping at events and sponsor the acquisitive prizemoney for the JADA Exhibition through membership and special fundraising events.

Becoming a Friend is a great way to become involved, regularly receive information about activities and events at the Gallery and the visual arts of the Clarence Valley.  Membership entitles you to a range of benefits such as a discount at the Gallery Shop. More about FoGG can be found online.

For this Exhibition Preview Dinner catered for by Rubony’s at the Gallery, 6 pm Friday February 10 the cost is $70 plus booking fee, through Eventbrite. A pay bar will be available from Rubony’s on the night.
