Burning truck sparks Maclean house fire

Investigations are continuing into a fire at Maclean on Monday night which started when a truck that was alight rolled into a home, causing the home to be engulfed by fire.

Around 9.30pm on Monday, February 5, emergency services responded to reports of a truck fire on Harwood Street, Maclean.

When the first brigades arrived, they found a flatbed truck fully engulfed in fire, that had spread to a nearby home.

An elderly woman, who had lived in the brick home for more than 50 years, was assisted from the residence by firefighters and treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

Emergency services in attendance were brigades from Fire and Rescue NSW stations 372 Maclean, 510 Yamba, and 306 Grafton, NSW RFS Gulmarrad Brigade and NSW RFS Clarence Valley District appliances, NSW Ambulance paramedics and police.

Firefighters took more than an hour to extinguish the blaze, which extensively damaged the home and truck.

A crime scene was established by Coffs Clarence police on Tuesday, who established the flatbed truck caught alight further up the road and rolled into the home.

Investigators are now trying to establish how the fire in the truck started and whether it was deliberately lit.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information about the truck fire, or who may have seen anyone in the area around Harwood Street and Cameron Street, Maclean on Monday evening to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
