Buccaneers crash at the final barrier

The “Big Dance” became the “Last Dance” as the Yamba Buccaneers were totally overwhelmed in the Far North Coast Presidents Cup grand final played at Ballina on Saturday.

Wollongbar scored in the first few minutes and were never headed during the match.

Their backline flowed all game scoring out wide on a number of occasions when Yamba just ran out of defenders.

Yamba had a number of opportunities but fell short and the only score came from a Nathan Hollis penalty goal in the 11th minute. Final score was Wollongbar 36 defeated Yamba 3.

The Yamba forwards matched it with the opposition, but the backs let them down with bad decision making, bad handling and missed tackles – all in all they were beaten by a far better team on the day.

On the plus side the Buccaneers had present Jed Holloway current Wallaby and former player sitting in the stands watching the demolition.

This season however has been very progressive for Yamba Rugby with five junior teams two of those winning premierships and the Seniors being competitive after heavy losses and injuries early in the year and then making the grand final with a good squad of players with some outstanding individual performances by Joel Imeson, Nathan Hollis, Joey Walker, Chris Williams, Josh Morris, Adrian Miller, Jack Horne and Jordan Croft.
