The Northern NSW Local Health District has appointed Tracey Maisey as its new Chief Executive to take the reins of health services from Grafton to Tweed Heads.

With a long and extensive career in both public health and housing, Mrs Maisey brings with her a wealth of experience, having worked in executive roles in Australia, New Zealand and Qatar across both rural and metropolitan services.

The appointment comes after former Chief Executive Wayne Jones, who spent eight years at the helm of the Northern NSW Local Health District, stepped down in February to take on the role of State Health Services Functional Area Controller, and Director of Clinical Operations Lynne Weir acted in the position until Mrs Maisey’s appointment.

Across many senior positions in health in Australia and New Zealand, Mrs Maisey most recently worked in New Zealand as Executive Director Planning, Funding and Business Intelligence for the Canterbury and West Coast District Health Boards, as well as holding the role of Interim Chief Strategy, Planning and Performance Officer for Health New Zealand.

In addition to her work for Health New Zealand, Mrs Maisey has previously held the role of Chief Executive of Wairarapa District Health Board for almost four years, she was the Director Population Health Planning and Performance for Northern Sydney Central Coast Health.

After 10 years in various operational and corporate business management and planning roles with the Hawkes Bay District Health Board in NZ, Mrs Maisey worked at the Oxford University Hospital in England in various roles from project lead for a diagnostic process to planning and performance monitoring.

Mrs Maisey has played a lead role in transforming healthcare delivery across various health settings, and also oversaw Health New Zealand’s national sustainability and climate change work program.

Her Linkedin profile recommendations detail her extensive experience and achievements.

“She is an exceptional leader, bringing together teams whilst keeping the patient and the communities we serve at the centre of everything we do,” former colleague Helen Skinner said.

“She engages brilliantly with stakeholders and promotes equity in outcomes.”

“Tracey is an exceptional leader, with broad ranging skills across all areas of health, and extensive healthcare experience in Aotearoa and overseas,” said Executive Director of Nursing Becky Hickmott.

“Tracey has the innate ability to lead, support and drive change in complex adaptive systems.

“Tracey works with all parts of the health system, is highly regarded and has led an outstanding response to COVID-19.”

Northern NSW Local Health District Board Chair, Peter Carter, welcomed Mrs Maisey to the role.

“Mrs Maisey brings significant expertise in the fields of population health planning, service commissioning and innovation,” he said.

“We look forward to working with her alongside our District’s executive team and colleagues to continue delivering high-quality healthcare to our residents and communities.”

Acting Chief Executive Lynne Weir will continue in the role until Mrs Maisey commences in mid-August.

“On behalf of the Board, I thank Ms Weir for her leadership in the interim period and look forward to her continued contribution with the District in her role as Director of Clinical Operations,” Mr Carter said.
