Ann Groom wins at Yamba but Darrie signals her return

Competition numbers were strong for last Wednesday’s 2nd monthly medal and Matchplay qualifier Stroke round.

With exemplary weather and a strong desire to get back out on the course, we had 53 ladies involved, including visiting Canadian player Sue Beaudry.

Results

The winner in Div 1 was Ann Groom (72). After a long absence, Darrie Nightingale emphatically announced her return by winning Div 1 putting (26), gross (83), r/up (74) and overall putting.

In Div 2, Jenny Muir was the winner and gross winner (69 and 96) with Di Sigle r/up (72). Jean Whitby won the putting (29).

Div 3 winner was Joan Berry (78) with Carol MacPherson the gross winner (116). Jane Madden was r/up (81), and Joan Berry won the putting (31).

The NTP sponsors and winners: Tech Lab 3rd – Janette Blair; Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) – Gail Scobie; Leonie May Millinery 9th (2nd) – Marg Fishburn; Yamba Fair Butchery 10th – Darrie Nightingale; The Shoe Boutique 12th and Clovelly Fashions, Maclean 17th – Julie Grant and The Wobbly Chook 17th (2nd) – Sandra Russo. Balls were awarded to 77.

Congratulations to Ann Groom, Jenny Muir and Joan Berry who were the monthly medal winners in their respective grades.
The winner of last week’s nine-hole single Stableford competition with nine players was Susan Boyce (15pts).

We had a small field of 14 ladies last Friday. With only one grade and winner, Julie Duncan had a great win with 33pts. Congratulations Julie.

The NTP winners: Flots and Jets 3rd – Jo King; Valley Finance 3rd (2nd) – Jane Madden; Peter Campbell Physio 9th (2nd) and Amie Rose Beauty 12th – Julie Grant; Kitchen to Table 10th – Darrie Nightingale; Nicholson’s Fine Foods 17th – NA and Yamba Pharmacy 17th (2nd) – Judy Palich. Balls were awarded to 32pts c/b.

We breathed a sigh of relief that our 1st Round Knockout matches went ahead last Friday despite the forecast and condition of the course. We had 16 participants who included: Fiona Smart; Gail Gore-Brown; Joan Berry; Jennifer Moody; Gail Scobie; Jeanette Blair; Carol MacPherson; Jeanne Jensen; Alison Caller; Jennifer Fagan; Carrie Aitken; Jane Anderson; Lynne Donsworth; Sandra Russo; Sue Wilson and Fay Gimenez. With the Rd 1 matches now completed, the following Rd 2 matches will take place this Friday: Fiona Smart v Alison Caller; Lynne Donsworth v Gail Scobie; Gail Gore-Brown v Jennifer Fagan and Janette Blair v Sandra Russo.
