Amazing achievements of our forefathers and mothers

Ed,

Many thanks Editor for your story on the arrival of the Salvation Army in Grafton, April 18, 1884 (CVI 17/4/24). What a wonderful contribution they have made for the community of the Clarence Valley.

Indeed 1884 was a vintage year for our City, with the arrival of the Sisters of Mercy in January, and the opening and dedication of Christ Church Cathedral in July of that same year.

In racing terms, a most successful trifecta.

When one recalls the opening of the Baptist Church in 1885, and the completion of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in 1886, one cannot help but wonder at the amazing achievements of our forefathers and mothers. Take a bow Grafton.

I invite all of our residents and visitors to take advantage of the Valley history so faithfully recorded by our various Historical Societies.

Bill Dougherty, Grafton
