An online petition has been launched calling on the state and federal governments to step in and support music festival Bluesfest after it was recently announced it would not continue beyond 2025.
In launching the petition which she hopes will get 20,000 signatures so it is debated in NSW Parliament, Member for Ballina Tamara Smith said “Bluesfest is not just a festival; it’s a crucial part of our community, our economy, and our cultural identity.”
Over the last decade, Bluesfest has generated $775 million for the Byron Shire, plus over $1.1 billion in tourism for NSW, and it has created 7,182 full time jobs in the Northern Rivers.
