Most likely event

Ed,

I have to respond in a state of shock to Bruce Kennewell, (Letter CVI 19/6/24), on his apportioning blame on the current State Government for I assume is the closure of the Ulmarra Ferry.

Maybe the correspondent is unaware of the decision-making processes of governments, in that the final announcement is usually months, if not years, in the making. Even decisions by our local council can take several years, the Grafton Pool being the classic example. Most likely event, the review of the operation of the Ferry was undertaken in the previous term of government. Yep, when we had a well-established local member. The timing of an announcement should not be totally blamed on a government, just 142 days into its term, when our former local member had 8 years to lobby for its retention.
