Glenreagh Mountain Railway has been awarded a transport heritage $9,755 grant under the Transport Heritage Grants Program to help complete the interior reconstruction of its 1926-vintage railmotor CPH11, Clarence MP, Chris Gulaptis announced last Wednesday. Mr Gulaptis praised the Glenreagh Mountain Railway for helping preserve local transport heritage. “Glenreagh Mountain Railway’s successful application shows how passionate our local community is about ensuring this history is kept alive and well. It is run entirely by a small group of volunteers with the goal of restoring the line and rollingstock and operating a heritage steam tourist railway on the GMR owned section of the Glenreagh-Dorrigo line. “I understand the quality of applications received this year was extremely high so we’re very pleased and excited that a project in our local community was successful. “I would like to extend my congratulations to the Glenreagh Mountain Railway on their successful application. “I encourage anyone eager to preserve our transport past to throw their hat in the ring in next year’s round,” Mr Gulaptis said. President of Glenreagh Mountain Railway, Chris Hanson said the grant will complete the interior refurbishment of the railmotor and go a long way to helping finish the vehicle and return it to traffic. “The plan is to operate out of Lowanna as part of a proposal put forward by the Lowanna Botanic Garden to provide a tourist train experience for their visitors when they open to the public,” Mr Hanson said. This year’s Transport Heritage Grants Program has awarded more than $165,000 to individuals and not-for-profit organisations to fund projects to conserve and restore heritage assets and educate the community about the history of transport in NSW.
