There was plenty of cheering when Peter Martin was announced as the recipient of the 2023 Clarence Valley Local Hero Award.

An influential figure in the establishment of the Yamba and Lawrence Croquet Clubs, Mr Martin has dedicated countless hours to the sport he is openly encouraging other Clarence Valley residents to try and take up.

A humble man who always puts his community first through volunteering to mow lawns, maintain gardens, and secure funding to support the local clubs, Mr Martin has always been held in high esteem by those around him.

Describing himself as delighted to receive the award, Mr Martin said he is looking forward to further highlighting the sport throughout the region and is excited to pursue new opportunities to promote its history and welcome new players to the clubs.

“It’s a very skilful game which doesn’t require a lot of physical activity, and it’s a sport which everyone can play,” he said.

Mr Martin was proudly nominated by Pamela Gauci.
