A young woman tragically passed away following a collision involving two vehicles in the Clarence Valley last week.
Around 1:20pm on September 14, emergency services were called to a scene at Palmers Island on Yamba Road, following reports a Mazda sedan and a Toyota RAV 4 had collided.
Officers from the Coffs/Clarence Police District also attended the scene and found the driver and sole occupant of the Mazda sedan, a 19-year-old woman, trapped in the vehicle.
The teenager was treated by a doctor, who had stopped to render assistance, before being extracted from the vehicle by emergency services.
She sustained serious injuries to her head, chest, back and pelvis, and was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter in a critical condition.
Sadly, she passed away as a result of her injuries on September 15.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota RAV 4, a 79-year-old woman, was uninjured.
A crime scene was established, and an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
