Yamba ladies golf

Congratulations to our very own Phyllis Telfer for her Eagle on 11.

Maclean lady golfers held their Annual 2 Day Tournament recently and Janine Zietsch and Paula O’Keefe took out third place 73 nett. Jenny Cicchinelli (Lismore) and Leigh Robertson won the visitors prize; this was a very generous gift by Cathy Ayres.

Country Week is held annually for our country players. This year we have three ladies travelling with the Grafton bus load to test their skills on the Sydney courses. Good luck girls.

Yamba lady golfers finalised their three day Mike Macqueen Memorial Shootout 2019.

The winners of the three major trophies, sponsored by Jenny Macqueen, were as follows:

Gross winners, on an excellent score of 251, were Ann Groom and Val Pate. Another fantastic score for the nett winners on 207 was scored by Kathy Parker and Loraine Glock. The nett runners up, just 3.5 behind were Sandra Wallace and Helen Collins 210.5. These three trophies will be presented on our special day in December.

All players were provided the trophies for the following events:

2nd r/up – Paula O’Keefe and Lyn Rowland 210.75; 3rd r/up – Suzanne Scott and Margaret Solomon 217.5; 4th r/up – Janelle Carpenter and Maiva Burnham 217.5 c/b; 5th r/up – Di Sigle and Jean Whitby 218.25; 6th r/up – Lee Daley and Robyn Brockwell 218.25.

The Foursomes event was won by Lyn Rowland and Paul O’Keefe 71.5; runners up – Sandra Wallace and Helen Collins 73 c/b; 3rd

Ann Schuhmacher and Sandra Russo 73 nett.

Regular weekly sponsorship is as follows: Yamba Medical Centre – Carolyn Chester and Moira Morrow 3 and The Shoe Boutique – Mary Hogan and Jenny Dewar 17. Balls to 76.5.

Our 9 holers had 17 starters and played the back 9 holes. This number of starters is an exciting, as it ensures that our 18 hole event will ultimately have a resurgence of new players.

We thank Trish White as president and her off-sides for making the new players feel so welcome. It’s a great starting point for them as is the Saturday ladies golf.

Welcome back to Angela Walpole who had a fabulous score of 20 points. Pru Leggoe was r/up on 18 c/b.

NTPs: Lyn Ford 17, Lyn Alford 12.

Friday August 30 was the 6th and final round of 4/6 Par event which has run during the year. Ann Groom won +2 c/b.  Runner up was Gail Scobie +2 c/b from third Joann Foley +2. Balls to -1

Thank you to our regular sponsors for the following nearest to pins:

Flots and Jets (30 – Margaret Solomon; Valley Finance (second on 30) – Lyn Eke; Peter Campbell Physiotherapy (second on 9) – Janelle Carpenter (birdie): Kitchen to Table (10) – Darrie Nightingale; Melt Massage and Beauty (12) – Jennifer Fagan; Beachside Bargains (17) – Margaret Solomon; Yamba Pharmacy (second on 17) – Phyllis Telfer.

Saturday girls played an 18 hole Stableford and one of our new golfers was winner on 39 points. Over the last few weeks, Tana has earned her handicap, and it seems to be lowering at an exceptional rate, due to her lovely golf. Tana plays golf with her dad and brother, I know, but professional John Wright claims her as his junior girl. Runner up this day was Jenny Moody 35 points and nearest to pin was Kathy Parker.

The Fathers Day cup was played on Sunday September 1.

On Wednesday September 4, Yamba ladies played a 4BBB V Par with eight pairs to qualify for a knockout event, with their subsequent rounds to be played at their own convenience each ensuing week.

The normal Friday event will be held as an 18 hole Stableford this week.
