Surf Life Saving Australia launches second intake of the Women’s Mentoring Program

Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is proud to announce the launch of the second Women’s Mentoring Program with 42 women from Club’s across the country to take part in the 12-month program. Following the success and high level of interest in the inaugural mentoring initiative launched in July last year, with support from McCarthy Mentoring, Surf Life Saving Australia made the decision to expand the program earlier than expected. The new group of 21 mentors and 21 mentees from across five States have been selected to participate in the program designed to strengthen leadership skills and develop the next generation of female leaders to position Surf Life Saving for the future. Surf Life Saving Australia President Graham Ford AM said the success of the initial program and level of interest within the Surf lifesaving community had led to the early introduction of the second program. “Surf Life Saving Australia is delighted to be launching a second Women’s Mentoring Program following the success of the first and level of interest across the movement,” said Ford AM. “The commitment, enthusiasm and outcomes from everyone involved has been amazing and something that really helps set our organisation up well for the future.” SLSA Life Member and Board Director, Suzanne Storrie, a key driver behind the Women’s Mentoring Program said she was delighted with the progress of the initial program and equally as excited about the second. “We were overwhelmed by the quality of applicants initially received and are proud to be able to launch a new group of mentors and mentees only eight months after our first group,” said Storrie. “The program allows us to connect the many talented females within our movement and the growth and development that has occurred with our initial group has been nothing short of inspirational. “It has been incredible to listen and watch both the mentees and mentors learn and grow from this experience, with many discovering passions, securing new jobs and of course using their experience to strengthen and enrich their own Surf Life Saving community.” The Women’s Mentoring Program has been supported by McCarthy Mentoring, a leadership development organisation that has been inspiring and enabling current and future leaders for more than 20 years. “McCarthy Mentoring is proud to support Surf Life Saving Australia’s Women’s Mentoring Program,” said McCarthy Mentoring CEO Sophie McCarthy. “It has been both enjoyable and rewarding to play a role in helping to develop these amazing women and future leaders of surf lifesaving and can’t wait to begin working with the next group.” SLSA is thankful for the generous support of McCarthy Mentoring for helping to make this initiative possible.
