A newly constructed 9ML settlement pond at the Rushforth Road Water Treatment Plant is now reducing turbidity issues in the Clarence Valley drinking water supply.
The pond treats raw water drawn from the Nymboida River through settlement and coagulation before replenishing the 100ML clean water reservoir, where the water is subject to further treatment.
The pond effectively provides an extra safeguard during dirty water events, and in mid-April was successfully activated to minimise the impact of such an event.
Work is ongoing to improve automation, efficiency and reliability of the settlement pond as Council strives to avoid future Level 4 water restrictions and boil water alerts such as those experienced in February.
