Clarence Valley Council has embarked on a new flying fox project, called Susan Island – Restoring to Reduce Conflict. The main aims of the project will be to:
• Restore flying fox habitat on Susan Island
• Encourage more flying foxes to roost there rather than in neighbouring urban areas
• Improving community attitudes towards flying foxes
• Improve understanding of their importance in wider ecosystem health.
Council will work closely with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service PWS, the Susan and Elizabeth Island Recreation Land Manager (SEIRLM), and Nyami Julgaa, the cultural custodians of Susan Island.
This project is funded by Local Government NSW through the Flying Fox Habitat Restoration Program.
