Local history on display for Anzac Day

Emma Pritchard

The Clarence River Historical Society (CRHS) at Schaeffer House in Grafton is home to an invaluable collection of local artefacts, including countless pieces of memorabilia associated with World War I, World War II, and several other widely recognised battles and conflicts.

On Anzac Day, as Australians come together to remember, reflect and respectfully acknowledge the many lives which were forever changed, and forever lost, through services to our country and the Commonwealth, the CRHS is inviting the community to visit their museum and view the history and heirlooms on display, including those from our nation’s participation in wars past and present.

Stories and records of all kinds are held by the CRHS including letters home from the Western Front of WWI, gifts to soldiers and photographic collections of unique historical value.

Schaeffer House Museum is open each Thursday between 1-4pm.

This year on Anzac Day, the museum will open between 12-4pm.

Entry is by a gold coin donation and the dedicated volunteers who work hard to preserve the collection for future generations are always happy to share their knowledge with visitors.

The CRHS would also like to pay their respects to those who proudly served our country on Anzac Day.
