Hollie Fuller scoops the pool at Grafton golf

Grafton women’s 72-hole Club and Division Championships and the 54-hole Weekend Championship have been finalised with the Junior girls scooping the pool.

Congratulation to the 2021 Club Champion, Hollie Fuller. Hollie, playing off a handicap of 3 amassed a 72 hole gross score of 308 and nett score of 294. This great scoring allowed Hollie not only to take out the Club Champion, but gave her the Div 1 nett with her 294. A great achievement. Runner up to Hollie in the scratch component was 2020 Club Champion, Heather Purtill with the runner-up going to Sue Petty.

In the Div 2 Championship Judith McFarlane was the victor with Heather Robinson three shots behind for the r/up spot in the gross event and that is how they finished for the nett component.

Div 3 Champions went to Val Franey who had a one shot victory over fast finishing r/up Brenda Cooper. Nett winner went to Brenda Cooper playing consistent golf over the four rounds with Sue Byrnes being r/up.

Putting champions for 2021: Div 1 – Kay Murdoch (116); Div 2 – Noeline Smith (129); Div 3 – Margaret Rickwood (136).

The final round of the Weekend Championship was played on Saturday last in damp wet soggy conditions, which didn’t seem to bother the eventual winner Maddie McKee. Maddie, playing off a handicap of 7 had a great front nine with 37 shots and only 27 putts for the 18 hole enabled her to claim the weekend 54 hole champion position. Her scratch score of 252, taking out the Championship as well as the nett and putting component of the event. Runner-up from Maddie was Chris Danvers, a long serving weekend player. Congratulation Maddie well played.

Congratulations must also go to Hollie for her overall scratch win at Grafton’s Tim Schaeffer Memorial Junior Classic, where she had 79 hits to beat both boys and girls. It was good to see that more girls played in the event than boys. Hollie also claimed the Tim Schaeffer Shield a closed nett event for Grafton Juniors with 75 nett.

Women Golf Northern Rivers nominations are now open and closing date will be on July 12. This is a three day events with Monday and Tuesday being played in three divisions and Wednesday a foursomes event. Div 1 and 2 will be the Stroke format and Div 3 a Stableford event.
