GDSC Major Singles Championship quarter finals

Last Saturday August 5 saw the completion of our Major Singles quarter finals, with the top eight players in this year’s draw doing battle to qualify for this year’s semi-finals.

Results were as follows:

In quarter final 1 Mark Walsh took on Tony Lickiss, and after a dire struggle in which the scores were level on a number of occasions, it was Mark who eventually outlasted Tony in what was a classic contest.

Final score: Mark Walsh 25 d Tony Lickiss 23.

In quarter final 2, it was Chris Teare who was up against Leith Basset who has been in devistating form of late (trust me I know), playing with his ‘magic wand’ bowling arm, however on this occasion Chris had all the answers and was simply too good on the day.

Final score: Chris Teare 25 d Leith Basset 10.

In quarter final 3, it was Greg ‘Squizzy’ Taylor doing battle with Robert Ulrick. This promised to be another tight struggle, but in the end, it was ‘Squizzy’ who gained the advantage in the mid to late stages to cross the line a winner by eleven shots.

Final score: Greg ‘Squizzy’ Taylor 25 d Robert Ulrick 14.

In quarter final 4 we saw Jamie Pye take on Allan Gough for the fourth and final semifinal spot; again, another even match on paper, but on this occasion, it was ‘Goughy’ who ‘got the chocolates’ outlasting Jamie by 8 shots.

Final score: Allan Gough 25 d Jamie Pye 17.

Congratulations to all eight players who provided the spectators present with four very entertaining games to watch, and inparticular the four winners who will contest the two semi-finals this coming weekend.
