Fashionable time to visit Schaeffer House

While many people journey to the Clarence Valley to experience its regional charm, culture, scenery, and its vibrant communities and townships, its unique history and heritage are on public display at Schaeffer House Museum in Grafton.

And for the next two months, the museum is showcasing a special exhibition.

Featuring a variety of exquisite handmade gowns and garments, including many which have been generously donated to the Clarence River Historical Society (CRHS) by local residents, the exhibition of colonial costumes dating from 1850-1890 also includes clothing worn by prominent members of Clarence Valley families.

Also among the vast collection are garments with royal connections, including two beautiful infant dresses which were worn by the Duchess of Grafton and her five children during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

President of the CRHS Steve Tranter said Schaeffer House Museum is extremely fortunate to be the home of many significant items of clothing, and he is encouraging locals and visitors to view the exhibition during their time in the Clarence Valley.

The exhibition of historical colonial clothes and costumes will be on display at Schaeffer House Museum from January 10 until March 9.

The museum is open between 1-4pm each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
