The gift that just keeps giving. For the first time, Maclean High School has been crowned as the Regional North Coast Champions for both the CHS Open women’s netball team and the CHS 15 Years netball team for 2022. This is a remarkable feat for the school and for the students.
Since reaching the semi-finals last year, the school has been very impressed with the commitment and attitudes of the students. This has opened up more sporting opportunities and amazing exposure to some outstanding netballers in the state.
Our Open’s team came 12th out of 17 teams during the state netball carnival which is a fantastic achievement. Many of the school teams our girls were competing against identified as Sport High Schools and Selective Colleges. Their ability to back themselves and be confident against a polished opposition, saw many of the girls play some of their best netball.
The growth of our students, and or players, over these past two years has enabled them to think more in tight situations and strategise on the court. Most recently, what we saw on Monday’s CHS 15s Regional Final was exceptional. Whilst the girls played an amazing game, there were definitely special moments that really won us the final. Jazz Page completely shut down the space and position of the GS, along with the captain, Sarah O’Hearn, who anticipated the ball, creating easy interceptions as the GD. Our attacking circle of Evie Walters and Olana Plunkett remained tough, holding positions and were strong in rebounds. It was awesome to have a fresh and clean change-over through the mid-court, where Zoe Snape and Tana Lowe could seamlessly swap in and out with Poppy Ford and Lily Mainey. Our WD was strongly held by both Montanna Campbell and Leilani Read, again, tight defense and closing down feeds into the shooting circle.
A special thanks must go to our umpires who have given up their time, and holidays, to offer our girls the opportunity to play some great netball this year. Thanks to Kacie Mitchell, Katie Jeffcoat, Jorja White, Stella Bryant and Heather Read. Your support throughout the season is appreciated.
Thanks to the LCNA and Shelly White for everything netball and more. And of course, the Breakers Netball club, for your ongoing coaching expertise and support.
To all the parents, your time and encouragement has been amazing.
So, a huge congratulations to all of our girls in both teams. You are and have been amazing. Good luck to our 15s in their State Carnival next term, competing on October 31 to November 1, in Wollongong at the Illawarra Sports Stadium.
Well done to the CHS Open netball team of 2022: Carissa Miltiadou (c), Samantha Hayman, Sarah O’Hearn, Jazz Page, Leilani Read, Zoe Snape, Tana Lowe, Olana Plunkett and Evie Walters.
