Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Giinagay Way at Macksville to carry out urgent repair work on the old Macksville Bridge over the Nambucca River.
An immediate 22 tonne load limit and single lane restrictions have been placed on the bridge after routine inspections on Tuesday 13 July found damage to some structural elements.
The restrictions will remain in place until temporary repair work can be carried out in an about a week, weather permitting.
Vehicles of more than 22 tonnes will need to use an alternative route via Giinagay Way and the Pacific Highway, which will add about 25 minutes travelling time.
Motorists crossing the bridge will also experience delays, with traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
