The son of a woman whose body was discovered in a car in a coastal Northern Rivers town last Friday has been charged with her murder and refused bail.
Emergency services were called to a unit on Park Street, Evans Head, at about 8.10am on Friday, March 8, after reports of a concern for welfare of a woman.
When officers attached to the Richmond Police District search a car parked at the unit, they found the body of a 60-year-old woman in the boot of the car.
A crime scene was established, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
A 39-year-old man, Jeramie James Massie, who it is has since been revealed was the woman’s son, was arrested at the scene and taken to Ballina police station where he was charged with domestic violence related murder and interfering with a corpse.
It is understood the woman was found with stab wounds and other injuries.
Mr Massie appeared in Lismore Local Court on March 9 and was refused bail to reappear in April.
Police said inquiries into the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
