Yamba….a bit wet under foot

Yamba ladies golf had a surprisingly large field of 45 players, including four visitors from Coffs Harbour and Sawtell Clubs, in last Wednesday’s 9-hole Irish Stableford.

With a very boggy course, many of the ladies found it very tough going; however, it was great for those participating to catch up with each other despite the shortened format.

Winners were Kathy Parker, Fay Gimenez, Jenny Muir and Val Pate (43pts) with Jill Brown, Jane Bonner and Lynne Eke following with 35pts.

The NTP winners: Jeanne Jensen – Tech Lab 3rd; Lyn Bartley – Yamba Florist, Debbie May 3rd (2nd) and Gail Scobie – Leonie May Millinery 9th.

Balls were awarded to 34pts.

Winners of the Best Dressed and Best Decorated cart (Irish biscuit plates) were Fay Gimenez and Sandra Russo.

The course was still the worse for wear last Friday, so numbers were smaller than we have been accustomed to. The general consensus was that no matter what, it was fabulous to be out on the course hitting that little white ball for a round of 18 holes.

We had 29 players and it was great to welcome back Fred McDougall. It’s been a while!

With only one grade, Janine Zietsch was the winner with 34pts c/b, just scraping in ahead of Sue Scott. Congratulation’s ladies.

Our NTP winners were: Flots and Jets 3rd – Gail Gore-Brown; Valley Finance 3rd (2nd) – Jo Foley; Peter Campbell Physio 9th (2nd) – Carrie Aitken; Kitchen to Table 10th – NA; Amie Rose Beauty 12th – Kathy Parker; Nicholson’s Fine Foods 17th – Jennifer Fagan and Yamba Pharmacy 17th (2nd) – Jane Anderson. Balls were awarded to 29pts.

The Saturday ladies had a field of 13 with the course still wet underfoot and, as a result, it was hard going. The scores reflected the difficult conditions.

Tana Lowe won with 28pts, and Kathy Parker was the next best with 27pts c/b.

Mary Hogan won the 12th NTP.

Due to the run of bad weather, we have had to make changes to our programme. This Wednesday will be the 1st GNSW Medal, 2nd Monthly Medal, 1st Ladies Elimination and Knockout Qualifier. Matchplay will commence for the 16 qualifiers this Friday. The 2nd round will be held on Friday April 1, 3rd round on Friday April 8 and the final on Wednesday April 13 at the end of the field. Happy golfing.
