Grafton men’s golf

Notice

Despite what was indicated in last week’s column, there has been a significant change to the date of the 2021 Pro Am, hosted by Grafton District Golf Club. As a result of COVID-19 activity, the Pro Am has been moved to Friday December 17.  The change was organised and sanctioned by the NSW PGA. It is hoped that the event can proceed on that date, not just for the golf professionals, but all the valued sponsors and supporters associated with the tournament.

Saturday July 31

In the Tim Newsome sponsored 18-hole single Stableford held last Saturday, a field of 121 starters teed it up on a great day weather wise for golf.

It was an inspired Gerry McMullan (18) who was the star on the day with a good score of 39 points to claim the overall win. Gerry was followed by a group of four players all on 38 points. They were Peter Johnson (10) who was awarded the win in A Grade.  Tom Porter (25) and David Gilbert (21) were awarded the win and r/up positions respectively in C Grade. The remaining player on 38 was Neville Higham (17) who unfortunately did not feature in the grade results and had to settle for just a pro-ball for his effort.

The B Grade winner was Ken Radunz (15) with 37 from Paul Grieve (12) on 36.  Craig Langford (5) with his score of 37 was good enough to claim the r/up spot in A Grade.

From the nine players who recorded a score of 33, only two were awarded a pro-ball, together with those with scores better than 34.

The Mark Harvison sponsored Pro-pin on the 1st, Terry Ord (16) just missed holing out with his tee shot finishing just 89cm passed the cup. The only eagle recorded on the day was achieved by Robert Bell (18) on the par 5 2nd hole.

Knockout series

There has been some perceived reluctance by a few player involved in both the singles knockout and 2-man Ambrose knockout to complete their first round matches by the prescribed date. Club Captain, David Morgan, has advised that should those matches not be completed by August 15 then unfortunately the forfeit rule will need to be applied, should any of those first round matches not be completed by then.
