The mouth-watering aromas of camp oven cooking and sounds of great music will once again be wafting through Nymboida Camping and Canoeing in Nymboida this June long weekend.
In a community still recovering from the effects of bushfires, in which 90 homes were lost, followed by the pandemic-induced cancellation of the 2020 festival, the 6th Clarence Valley Camp Oven Festival is finally just around the corner.
Festival Creative Director Laena Stephenson said, “We’re so glad to be returning with a packed line-up and a whole extra day’s fun and entertainment thanks to holding the festival over the holiday weekend.”
“This year’s music bill is headlined by the renowned and much-loved NSW Bluesman Ray Beadle, with festival favorites Sunburnt Celts hosting the bush dance and Ilona Harker bringing various cabaret elements to the programme. And festival regulars, Hoozatt Entertainment will be delighting festival-goers with hilarious street theatre characters from their extensive repertoire.”
“On the cooking side we’ve invited celebrity cooks Ranger Nick and Kingbrown Camp Oven Kitchen, both of whom will be offering demonstrations and tastings. We know there are also many excellent cooks in the community and our Camp Oven Cooking Competition is their opportunity to show off their skills.”
“We don’t take the competitions too seriously, it’s mostly about having fun with a bunch of other cooks in a supportive environment. That said, if you win the guest judge’s prize you will be a part of CVCOF history with your name engraved on the perennial trophy. We also have a few tickets remaining for the People’s Choice judging panel, who are served a tasting portion of each meal in the competition, washed down with a complimentary glass of wine.”
Traditional family games and competitions complete the weekend’s activities and include the fiercely-contested Billy Boiling competition, the Rubber Ducky Race, and Cardboard Kayak Calamity.
The festival runs from 11th to 14th June. Cabin and camping accommodation has almost sold out and weekend & day passes are now available to purchase via the website, which also lists discount deals with Grafton motels.
