Motorists will enjoy improved safety on the Pacific Motorway with asphalt replacement work starting this week at Chatsworth Island.

Transport for NSW Director North Region said this $6.7 million package of work is jointly funded under the NSW Safer Roads Program and the Australian Government’s $140 million Targeted Road Safety Program.

“Road users and the NSW economy are benefiting from work being carried out across the state due to stimulus spending,” Ms Zycki said.

“This funding is allowing Transport for NSW to deliver projects and activities in addition to its regular program of work, which are helping to keep people in jobs while also making our road networks safer for all motorists.”

Ms Zycki said work started this week to replace the asphalt on a 4.2 kilometre section of the Pacific Motorway, between Carrols Lane and to the south of Serpentine Channel.

“This is needed to strengthen the southbound road pavement at this location and will require traffic to be diverted onto the northbound lanes for about five weeks,” Ms Zycki said.

“Road crews will be working around the clock to ensure impacts to road users are kept to a minimum and works are completed as soon as possible.

“Regular traffic arrangements will be restored during the June long weekend and school holiday periods.

“This project will not only improve safety for the 14,000 motorists who travel along the motorway each day, it will also help support about 40 jobs and five local suppliers and contractors.”

Transport for NSW crews will be working overnight from 7pm to 3am from Sunday to Thursday and during the day from 7am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, weather permitting.

Motorists should follow the directions of traffic control and signs, including reduced speed limits.
