Woman’s body recovered near Gloucester

Emma Pritchard

The body of an elderly woman, alleged to be that of missing Maclean resident Adele Morrison, was located on a rural property at Barrington on the Mid North Coast on April 10.

The 78-year-old was last seen at a shopping centre in Gloucester around 10:45am on March 16, but her following movements remain unknown.

Her family reported her missing to Mid North Coast Police on March 17 after they failed to make contact with her.

Ms Morrison had recently driven to Gloucester from Port Macquarie.

Her vehicle, a red 2017 Toyota Corolla, was discovered partially submerged in the flooded Barrington River on March 25.

However, Ms Morrison remained unaccounted for, and grave concerns were held for her safety due to her age and the torrid wet weather conditions at the time of her disappearance.

Extensive search efforts were undertaken in the following days as conditions improved, however, she was not located.

Around 5pm on April 10, a property owner on Barrington West Road, roughly 10km north west of Gloucester, notified police after they discovered an elderly woman’s body on the riverbank.

Officers from the Manning Great Lakes Police District attended the property and established a crime scene which was examined by specialist forensic police.

The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

A formal identification is yet to be made, but it is alleged the body is that of Ms Morrison.

Ms Morrison lived in Maclean and was known to frequent the Gloucester, Nabiac, Berrico and Barrington Tops areas.
