Tartan Brushy Club autumn meetings

There was a good attendance for our first autumn meeting.

Our guest speaker Roslyn Hollis spoke on women’s health. Roslyn    certainly crammed a lot of good basic health information in a clear, frank and concise way. Several leaflets were left for members. Roslyn urged members to keep up their medical appointments. Glad demonstrated her exercises and introduced a guessing game of ‘heads and tails’.

Down memory lane was the feature of another meeting, and many interesting and varied items were on display. Glad related a story of pupils being sprayed for nits using an old type of pump spray. An album of Bermuda photos with some souvenirs were passed around with a short description.

St Patrick’s Day arrived, and we had an Irish theme day. We had a guest, Judy, who lived on a catamaran that was moored at Brushgrove and she told us about her life aboard. We played the card lolly game, a club favourite and Bingo followed. We thank Joy for playing the piano for us at short notice. Our next meeting was cancelled due to flooding.

We certainly made up for our cancelled meeting with our 19th Birthday celebration, bearing in mind that our 18th birthday last year was cancelled due to Covid. Our special guests were Mr Tom Barnsley, State coordinator of RSL Day Clubs, Mr Dennis Noel from Maclean RSL Sub-Branch and Mrs Bev Daly, Far North Coast support person. We had a beautiful birthday cake cut by three original members Marie, Jenny and Dawn. Speeches were given by our guests and a birthday poem was read and badges and framed certificates were handed out.

Congratulations to Lyn Smith (15 years volunteering), Trish York for (10 years) and Mariet Pilton (nearly 2 years) membership certificates, Daphne Doyle and Gloria Murphy (both 10 years).

Skye sang for us some lovely melodies. A delicious lunch was served with a birthday cake. A ‘lovely legs’ guessing display was staged by our male members and one game lady! Personal medical cards were handed out and a novelty scroll. We look forward to many more happy years at Tartan Brushy.

We thank our coordinator Jenny for putting this special day together and for each volunteer and of course our wonderful members.
