Described by his loved ones as a very quiet and private man, Kenneth Weeks was more than happy to ensure his 109th birthday party on October 5 was a low-key affair at his residence at Whiddon Grafton.

With a small number of friends and family members by his side, the oldest resident in the Clarence Valley, and also Australia’s oldest gentleman, was content to sit comfortably and watch the festivities unfold last week as he enjoyed a delicious chocolate birthday cake and baked goodies prepared by the aged care facilities local chef.

Mr Weeks’ niece Jenny Powell said it was wonderful to celebrate her uncle’s 109th birthday, adding it took quite some time to read all of the birthday cards he received to him.

“There were quite a few accolades amongst them,” she said.

“Lots of people wanted to wish him a happy birthday.

“He’s always been a very private person, but this was a special occasion to celebrate.”

During the party, attendees also wrote birthday wishes on a tablecloth for Mr Weeks which will be sent to his son Ian in Melbourne, who was unable to attend the event.

Ms Powell also wished to express her sincere thanks on behalf of the family to everyone who acknowledged her uncle’s 109th birthday.
