In recognition of NSW Youth Week 2022, the Clarence Valley Independent hit the streets and asked our local kids and teenagers what they love the most about living and growing up in the region.

Gracelyn Miller: I like living in Grafton because it’s close to a lot of really nice beaches at Wooli and Minnie Water. They’re my favourite ones to visit. We’re lucky to live in the country because I think its nicer than living in the city.

Phoebe Palmer: The whole area has a really cool, laidback and relaxing vibe. Everyone is super nice and welcoming, and there are a lot of really fun outdoor activities you can do on the river (when it isn’t flooding), and at the beach. It’s a nice place to grow up because everyone knows each other and you’re a part of a really close community.

Deanna Menzies: The best thing about living in the Clarence Valley is the Grafton Jacaranda Festival. It’s a really fun time. It’s my favourite time of the year because all of the trees turn purple, and they make Grafton look really pretty.

Jax Ewan: I haven’t lived here for very long, but it’s been really easy to make friends at school and everyone has been really nice to me and my family. My nan was born in Maclean, so I feel like I have a connection to the town. I’ve lived in a lot of different places. I like the Clarence Valley best of all because it feels like home.

Sienna-Rae Pullock: I’m only visiting for a few weeks because my mum is thinking of moving to Yamba if she gets a new job. I hope we can move here because I’ve already made lots of new friends, everyone is really nice, and I like all the parks and shops I’ve been to so far.
