District Singles success for GDSC bowlers

Last weekend, April 29 – 30 saw the staging of the Zone 1 South District Singles Championship for 2023.

The GDSC was represented in all three divisions: ‘Open’ Division, ‘Reserves’ (for grade 5, 6 & 7 Pennant players) and Seniors Division for players over sixty years of age.

The ‘Open & Seniors’ division were played at the Iluka BC while the reserves’ were played at Brooms Head.

All our players performed very well, with a number of very close wins as well as some very close losses and our club can be very pleased with our performance on the whole…well done everyone.

With the format having changed somewhat over the past two years, the winners of both semi-finals in all three divisions would qualify for the Zone 1 Play-offs in a few weeks time, and two of our members were successful in achieving exactly that.

In the Open division it was Mark Walsh who performed extremely well on both days, giving his opponents on Sunday a ‘lesson’ in the art of bowls…. take it from me, I was his ‘victim’ on Sunday morning in the quarter final…. Mark winning 25 – 10. I had now chance, and his great form continued in the semi-final defeating Nathan Wilson from Maclean 25 – 8.

In the ‘Reserves’ division at Brooms Head, it was Jason Ryan who put his best foot forward all weekend in much slower conditions to his home synthetic greens at the GDSC. Jason was also playing against a number of players from Brooms Head, which adds even more credit to his performance   as they were on their home green. Jason defeated S. Swain in the semi-final in a cliff-hanger 25 – 24. What a game!

The club wishes both Mark & Jason all the very best when they represent our club at the Zone 1 Singles Play-offs in a few weeks’ time.

Club Championships

In Club Championships over the past two weeks, we had three matches played in our Mixed Triples Championship.
