Every year Iluka Golf Club holds its very own version of State of Origin, a weekend packed full of fun and state rivalries. With borders closed this year a lot of staunch Queenslanders couldn’t make the annual trek this month. But some firm local supporters held the flag high.
The 2-day event saw over 110 players register and compete, Saturday (October 24) 59 competitors and 63 on Sunday (October 25). Saturday’s event was a medley individual Stableford.
Ladies best Stableford went to Deb Ashcroft on 41 with Sandi Mayoh 1st r/up and Patricia Freeman 2nd r/up.
Men’s best Stableford winner was Brett Waters with 42 ,1st r/up John McEwin, 2nd r/up Phil Penberthy.
NTP’s: Ladies 2nd shot (1/10) Linda Warne, 6/15 Deb Ashcroft, 8/17 M. Whitton. Men 1/10 Jim Cazalet, 6/15 Michael Loy, 8/17 John McEwin.
Sunday was a little more casual with a 4-person Ambrose and non-handicap players were welcome, and they turned up in droves! Winning team on the day were M. Adey, S. Brittan, P. Micheal, S. Young with 52.125.
When all was said and done the clock tolled time for the presentation and to find out which state reigns again this year!
Men’s shield for the highest Stableford score went to Brett Waters. Ladies shield for highest Stableford score was Deb Ashcroft.
The Squashed Toad was collected by Merrilyn Whitton (lowest QLD Stableford score) & the Proud Cocky (lowest NSW Stableford score) went to Brian Kembrey.
The highly contested State of Origin trophy was retained by NSW… “Go The Mighty Blues”.
I would like to thank all who helped organise, coordinate/marshal and especially those who attended for another fantastic golf weekend at Iluka Golf Club. Did you miss this event? Keep an eye out for what’s coming next!
