The Friends of Grafton Gallery invite you to meet Ursula “Ursh” Tunks who will be the guest speaker on Wednesday May 17 at Grafton Regional Gallery 10 for 10.30am.
There is no charge for the talk, and you do not need to be a member to attend.
FoGG supports the gallery through fundraising functions and membership subscriptions which help to provide the prise money for the Gallery’s flagship Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award.
After leaving her career in both state and federal police forces, Ursula identified as a ‘recovering federal agent’ and an ‘AFP survivor.’ But she’s survived so much more. From family violence to health challenges, to dancing with poverty as a single mother of two kids, she has a well-rounded understanding of what it feels like when ‘you have nothing, and no one to help.’ She also knows that it doesn’t take much to make a difference for others, and that access to basic necessities and a sense of community are truly powerful.
The Mend & Make Do Crew started as a Facebook page in 2014 and now has two large sheds forming the base of a volunteer-run not-for-profit that supports emergency relief and homelessness agencies across the Northern Rivers and South East Queensland.
As the Nerd Leader and Cat Herder (aka president and one of the founding members) of The Mend & Make Do Crew Incorporated, Ursula and the rest of the Nerd Crew work to show people that they are worth the effort and that someone has their back.
Come and meet this remarkable lady who was, among other things, a shining light for many of our community who had their lives turned upside down during the floods.
Bookings through Eventbrite.
