Mareeba Aged Care residents in Maclean have been treated to weekly social visits from Maclean High School students in recent weeks as part of an intergenerational program, where the young and old connect.

The program is helping students appreciate the importance of community support and socialisation with seniors.

The Year 11 students have been visiting Mareeba residents weekly to enrich their lives through games, physical exercises, and discussion.

“Connecting with younger locals is such a treat for our residents,” said Mareeba Aged Care Director of Nursing, Leanne Hancock.

“Keeping up with teenagers through card games and physical exercise helps our residents stay sharp and active, and they have a whole lot of fun doing it!” Said Ms Hancock.

“Our residents have loved their visits and we hope that we can keep this program continuing into future school terms,” said Ms Hancock.
